A 5 page overview of Bail Hostels. Contends that bail hostels offer an effective means of community supervision for a number of categories of people. Individuals who could benefit from a bail hostel program include the homeless, the elderly, the mentally ill, and individuals on probation. One of the most productive uses of the bail hostel system, however, is in their use as alternative housing criminals. Such use could, under certain circumstances, be more economical and efficient than typical prison scenarios. There are, however, a number of considerations which must be made in the bail hostel environment. These considerations include funding, management and staffing, supervision, equal opportunity issues, community interaction, risk management, physical configuration of the facility.
