It is interesting to ask, therefore, how adequately the major sociological explanations of deviant behavior explain the occurrence of academically dishonest conduct. When the student discusses this perspective, it will be important to address such theories as strain theory, opportunity theory, differential association theory and labeling theory, all of which provide some type of motivation for this behavior.
